Information

The folkloric dance group "De Plaggenmeijers"was established in 1945 on initiative of a few committee members of the "Rekkens Festival". The name is derived from the cutting of sods, used in the stables and as fertilizer on the land.

Twice a month the dances are practised on accordion music. Most dances date back from before the1900s and often portray something for example a  lovers' quarrel. The regional dress from that period is used in dances and the ladies' goffered caps catch the eye. Besides the daily dress the Sunday dress is also used in shows. The checked aprons are exchanged for silk ones then and the white clogs are replaced with shoes.

"De Plaggenmeijers" perform both at home and abroad.
